Working with 4 Corners - The Process

By: ELI C. NEAL, CPA, ABV, CFF

When you hire 4 Corners Financial Forensics, you’re building your team of experts. We are here to provide expertise to your case or situation, providing clarity around often-complicated financial matters. Generally, our process looks like this:

  1. Initial consultation (phone or video call)

  2. Engagement letter

  3. Data gathering

  4. Attorney and client interviews

  5. Analysis performed

  6. Final report, letter, and/or exhibits provided

  7. Preparation for testimony (if needed)

  8. Project conclusion and request for feedback

Below, let’s walk through our process in more detail:

Before we decide to work together, we sit down with you (whether you’re an attorney or business owner) to learn more about the project, your needs, and the timeline. If we can help, our team then drafts an engagement letter outlining the expectations of the project and a retainer request. We typically operate with “evergreen” retainers that are then applied to the final bill.

Once the engagement letter has been signed by all parties, we provide a list of requested documents and open a ShareFile.

Throughout our engagements, we work closely with attorneys and their clients to gain a deeper understanding of the business or matter at hand. We may meet with an owner, CEO, manager, CFO, or other person familiar with the business and its finances.

Once we’ve gathered the necessary data, we begin our analysis and report or letter writing. Questions for you or your client (if you’re an attorney) may come up throughout the process, along with additional document requests if we come across something we need more data or clarity on.

Upon completion of our analysis, we provide our work product. This may be a full report with attached exhibits, exhibits only, or a concise letter with attached exhibits. Towards the end of our analysis, we typically hold a meeting to go over the results of our analysis.

If deposition, trial, or arbitration is expected in a litigation matter, we will work with the attorney to plan our testimony and discuss any questions we have for opposing experts.

Upon completion of the project, we greatly appreciate receiving feedback from clients and attorneys (via a a Google review), as this helps us understand the decisions made by triers-of-fact and grow our practice.

4 Corners is located in the Greater Seattle area, serving clients in Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, and all throughout the Pacific Northwest. If you are an attorney or business owner and believe you could use our help, please give 4 Corners a call at 425.800.4896 or email us; we’ll listen to your situation and help you scope your project. We’d love to help you.
